Exploration of the Orinoco Delta
Detailed Description
We do suggest a journey of four days and three nights, but if you have limited time available, it is possible to do a very interesting program with three days and two nights.
Day 1
Navigation from San Jose de Buja to the camp, at the end of a small caño; more or less an hour by boat. This time in the river is a wonderful introduction to the Orinoco Delta.
Arriving at the lodge we will have a welcome drink and a presentation of the camp. Then we will have lunch and we return to the boat to travel across small rivers chosen by the guides to discover the vegetation and animals of the Delta, then a little snack in the boat to watch the sunset and the possibility to take a bath in the river. There is the option for a nigth tour looking for caimans, snakes and nocturnal animals, and also fishing with an indigenous technique to catch rays or Lau lau. Back to the lodge, nigth in hammocks with mosquito net.
Day 2
Waking up to the sound of howler monkeys and singing birds, we will have breakfast. Then with rubber boots provided by the guide, we will go for a walk in the jungle, where you will be able to observe and experiment, thanks to the local guide, the forest and its many uses in the Warao culture: Medicinal plants and those needed in the manufacture of handicrarfts, food preparation, drinks, and trees used for the construction of houses, etc. Back to the camp for lunch. In the afternoon we will go by boat for some piranha fishing. Once again we will enjoy the sunset in the boat, and then back to the lodge and to spend the night in hammoncks and mosquito net.
Day 3
After breakfast we will go with a smaller boat to explore small caños. After lunch at the camp, we will visit a Warao community. where you can see and purchase Warao handicraft. Sunset in the boat, return to the lodge.
Day 4
This morning we will be paddling i a canoe to discover and observe the awekening of the Orinoco Delta, then we will return to the lodge. Breakfast at the lodge and back to San Jose de Buja.
This tour icludes:
A knowledgeable, bilingual guide, all meals from lunch the fisrt day to breakfast the last day, excursions, hammocks and mosquito nets for the nights at the lodge.
The departure for this trip is from the small village of San Jose de Buja, about one hour from Maturin or three hours from Puerto Ordaz, we can arrange the transfers.
