11 days hike to Mount Roraima
Come hone your photographic technique and improve your visualization, while exploring a fascinating place.
Accompanied by the photographer Peter Feibert, you will travel through the unique landscape of the Gran Sabana. Hiking on the savannah, from where the tepuis emerge, swimming in rivers and enjoying waterfalls, passing through indian villages, you will walk up Mount Roraima, to 2,700m (8,100ft) above sea level.
The top of a tepui is an incomparable experience: the rock formations resemble sculptures; the flora is made up mostly of orchids and bromeliads, many endemic; the weather and the light change frequently; in other words, you will get to know an inspiring place, bringing back with you the best images, made by yourself.
The focus of this trip is photography. That means the photographic opportunities will be explored to the utmost, allowing plenty of time for the group´s members to practice their technique and improve their visualization. The activities and the rhythm of the trip will be dictated by the photographic opportunities, such as the sunrises and sunsets; the moon; the flora in macro; the rock formations; the weather. On the tepuis the scene changes continuously, due to their exquisite weather, which allows for more experimentation. When not photographing we will be discussing techniques, nature photography and related issues. At night we will review and comment the images of the day on a computer.
Participants: 8 (minimum of 4 required)
Includes:
Full supervision by Peter Feibert, with theoretical and practical teaching of nature and location photography, and discussion of the participant's photography as we travel;
All the logistics, starting in Caracas, until the return to that city: internal flights from Caracas, airport transfers, transportation, meals, guides, 1 porter for each traveler, camp site.
Does not include:
Airport taxes, personal expenses.
Trip outline
DAY 1
Meeting at Simon Bolivar International Airport in Caracas, assistance to the National Terminal and flight to Ciudad Bolívar. Overnight in Ciudad Bolivar.
DAY 2
Early flight to Santa Elena de Uairén, meeting with the rest of the group, drive to Jasper Creek, return for dinner and overnight in Santa Elena.
DAY 3
Drive to Paraitepuy, and start of hike to Kukenan River.
DAY 4
Walk to Mount Roraima base camp.
DAY 5
Walk up to Mount Roraima.
DAY 6
Exploration of Mount Roraima.
DAY 7
Exploration of Mount Roraima.
DAY 8
Walk down from Mount Roraima and on to Kukenan River.
DAY 9
Walk to Paraitepuy and return drive to Santa Elena.
DAY 10
Return to Caracas, overnight hotel close to the airport.
Transfer to the airport.
